High Street, Handcross

A very early photograph showing Roberts House on the left and a gathering of villagers outside the Post Office. I cannot read the sign on Roberts House, but my father has added on the reverse of the photograph “William Masters, Booksellers, Stationers & Newsagents.” Further up the street the sign on the gable end is “Nye & Son, Grocery & Crockery, Warehouse”. The original photograph is severely discoloured with lots of blemishes. It can be viewed on picture #103.
