Barry Ray Year: 1890 Villages: HandcrossMail coach abandoned in snow
The quality is abysmal, but as someone took trouble to take a picture of the mail coach marooned in the snow I think it deserves a larger audience.
I have no further details of the incident, but I would assume that it is probably on the London to Brighton run.
In 1812 “The Blue Coach” was robbed of nearly £4,000 in bank notes at Handcross. The cash belonged to the Brighton Union Bank and they offered a reward of £300 for its return. However the robbers were never caught.
However, I think the reward has now expired for any bounty hunters amongst you!
