Betts Folly, Warninglid

About three-quarters of a mile from the village crossroads along Warninglid Lane crossroads stood the original Betts Folly cottages, one of which is photographed here. They were pulled down and a pair of modern semi-detached houses built to replace them.
The photograph shows Philadelphia Langley (née Harding), wife of William Langley, and their married daughter Florence May Franklin (née Langley) with her son, Ron Franklin.
Two more sons followed Ron, and then a daughter, Mabel Franklin, nowadays better known as Mabel Wren.
According to the 1842 Tithe Map the two old Betts Folly cottages were occupied by a widow, Mrs Eade, and William Langley’s father, also named William! It only mentions the head of the household in occupation.
The Large Version shows a close up of the three generations of the Langley family.
Click on Open Document for a photograph of Philadephia’s husband, William Langley (1862-1932), standing outside the original Betts Folly.
