British Legion Beauty Queen 1956

At the November 1956 Poppy Day dance held in the Parish Hall, Handcross it was time to select the new British Legion beauty queen.
Local judges were Mr and Mrs C. A. Godman of Keepers, Tilgate, and Mrs J. B. Twohey of the Red Lion, Handcross.
Coincidentally, for the second year in succession the winner was an employee from the Stadium Garage, Pease Pottage, where both girls attended the petrol pumps. This year the winner was 16-year-old Pauline Wilson, with, for the second consecutive year, 17-year-old Gillian Bridges from Pease Pottage as the runner-up.
