May Day Festival 1920 Staplefield

The May Day procession started at the top of Handcross High Street and made its way down the Staplefield road to the Common. The picture is of part of the procession as it passes by the Post Office Stores on the right of the picture.

What is the building between the trees in the middle of the picture?
Added by Sam Butler on 08 April 2014
Sam, I made mention of the mystery house in picture #1091 and in picture #1093. It must have had quite a short existence.
By my calculations it was located about where the garages for Tanners Mead are now, just behind the bus shelter.

picture #299 has a similar field lay out to the picture of the mystery house but from a slightly different angle; I can't think of anywhere else that has the uphill slope with a line of trees in front of some buildings.
Looks to me like the house must have been up by the Tanners Mead garages or Rose Bank, looking across what is now the paddock to Tanyard Lane.

The field lay out in picture 299 is indeed similar, but is too close to the church. As you say, the mystery house is around Tanners Mead garages and Rose Bank.
Where is the Staplefield Time Team when you need them?
