May Day Festival 1922 Staplefield

The May Day celebrations continue at Staplefield Common with a display of country dancing watched by a large crowd..
Just left of centre can be seen the upper storey of The Jolly Tanners.
The dances were performed twice; once in the afternoon and again in the evening.
At the conclusion, everyone sang “God save the King”; being King George V. Then the children clambered aboard the various horse-drawn wagons in attendance and were driven home.
The Large Version shows a close up of the dancing girls.
