Old Haslings Hotel, Warninglid

Many residents of a certain generation will remember the Old Haslings Hotel standing next to the A23 Brighton Road just 400 yards south of the present Warninglid bridge. Nowadays it is a nursing home operating as Aniska Lodge, but over the years it has had several different lives.
Built as a private house in the early/mid 1800s it became the Old Haslings Hotel in the early 1900s until its demise in the 1960s. It was closed for a few years until it came to life again, trading as Markwells Hotel and Restaurant.
Yet again it changed its mode of trading and became more of a nightclub named variously as Drucilla’s and The Taverners.
In the 1980s it was granted Grade II listed building status.

I found this on the BBC "Domesday Reloaded" website that would have been written in 1986:
"Before my Dad bought the Taverners it was called Bradleys, and before that it was called Markwells.
We have got 7 hotel rooms and 6 have bathrooms. The price of a single room is £15.00, and £30 for a twin or double
room for bed and breakfast. The Bridal Suite costs £40 a night.
We have owned it for about a year and a half. It has got a disco, a wine bar, a garden bar, a restaurant, a cocktail bar and a barbecue.
There is a dinner and dance every Wednesday and Saturday which costs £10.00.
An English breakfast costs £2.80 and a three-course lunch on Sundays is £6.50 and on other days it is £4.75.
A three-course dinner is £6.90.
The oldest bit of the Taverners is about four hundred years old and the newest is about 60 years old."
