Handcross Park Cricket Club Challenge Cup

This is a photograph of the Handcross Park Cricket Club Challenge Cup for Best Bowling Average. It was presented by Major J. R. Warren M.C. in 1921.
The winners were: H. Knight 1921, W(illiam) Biggs 1922, W. Biggs 1923, H. Knight 1924, T. Bailey 1925, T. Bailey 1926, J. Powell 1927, and W. Biggs 1928.
As my Great-Uncle Billy had won it on three occasions he was given the cup to keep.
During my visits to the Hyde in the 1950s and 1960s we played lots of cricket on small strips of lawn mown by Uncle Billy. He also used to let me mow the lawns and water the massive greenhouse. We used to stay at 4, Hyde Cottages with my grandmother, Dorothy Richter.
I always had a fascination for this cup and on his passing in 1974 he left it to me. It is my prized possession and brings back so many happy memories of that time.
I truly loved my Uncle Billy even though he would rise at 5.30am and have the BBC Home Service booming out to overcome his deafness!
He was a lovely man.
