Great Storm in Balcombe Lane, Handcross

Following the Great Storm of October 1987 the Balcombe Road was blocked by a large tree, just yards from Gravelpit Corner. As there was no access to the A23 from this junction, the present-day mini roundabout had not yet been constructed.
The Mid Sussex Times issued a special publication called “Night of the Hurricane”, and their report covered villages in the Slaugham Parish.

I wonder if the tradition of a “supper/bath” still continues in Handcross!
