The Handcross WI performed the Merchant of Venice twice, but here are some photographs from the first, pre-war production performed in the open-air at Nymans.
Here we see, from the left, Mrs Toogood as “Salanio”, Miss Louisa Jackman as “Shylock”, and Mrs Wilson as “Salarino”.
I haven’t seen so many wrinkles in a pair of stockings since Nora Batty!
The Large Version shows, at the top, Miss Daphne Dengate as “Portia” and Mrs Lily Jakes as “Bassanio”.
Below are Mrs Cracknell, Mrs H. Tulley, and Mrs Lily Jakes.
