Quick's Garage, Handcross

At Mr Archie Quick’s garage there is a customer, but with the bonnet open on one side the filler cap seems to be in an unusual place. The photograph may have been taken on a Sunday as Mr Quick employed a boy to serve petrol on that day. Cleveland petrol was the prominent brand sold and the price of one shilling and three pence per gallon was indeed the average price at the time. That equates to 1¼p per litre, about one hundredth of today’s price. The Large Version shows a close-up of the car being filled up.
