Signpost at Chodds Cottages, Handcross

Further to picture #1204 the stone base of the signpost has the inscription “Remember 1914-1918”.
At the top of the oak post the frame surrounding the crucifix is also made of oak, and the figure and hand are made of lead. I suggest these are certainly much older than the Great War and I suspect that this was just one of the many architectural items collected by Leonard Messel for use in the Nymans house and gardens.
