Old garage in High Street, Handcross

This is a plan of The Old Garage as surveyed in 1886. In the 1700s the buildings to the rear comprised stables and a barn, the latter building later being converted to a house, now known as Forge Cottage. In 1925 Alfred Quick purchased the property for his son, Archie, to join Mr Burtenshaw, the principal blacksmith, and another wheelwright to satisfy the needs of both horse-drawn traffic and the ever-increasing number of motor cars.
