Driving sheep to the Hyde, Handcross

The flock of sheep (continued from picture #1216) has now reached the Furnace Pond at Slaugham. In the foreground is Bill Scott, farm manager at the Hyde, using his crook as a walking stick, and surrounded by his Border Collies awaiting orders.
The Large Version shows them at the top of Coos Lane turning left into the Horsham Road, Handcross.
Click on Open Document to view the final picture of the steaming sheep arriving that Truckers Hatch at the entrance to the Hyde Estate. The house, picture #752, can just be seen on the extreme right of the photograph.

I arrived in the village as the local policeman in 1971 and remember I was at the Horsham Road junction to help get them into the Hyde entrance at Truckers Hatch.
I think 1975 may be nearer the date. I cannot be more specific as I do not possess my pocket books of those days. You had to hand them in on completion before being issued with a replacement.
