Handcross Band Festival 1968

At a regular Slaugham Parish Council meeting, Councillor Roger Ray informed the members that an approach had been received to provide a venue for a Belgium youth band to perform in the recreation ground in Handcross. It was decided to turn the event into a band festival with bands from other parts of Mid-Sussex performing.
In the event a storm hit Handcross during the festival, and, due to the conditions underfoot, it was quickly decided that, once the storm had moved on, the band would continue their performance by marching up and down the High Street!
Their performance concluded by lining up outside the Fountain Inn and performing the national anthems of Great Britain and Belgium. How I wish that it had been captured on film.
The Large Version shows a copy of the contract drawn up between the youth band and the Handcross Band.
