Handcross Band recruitment drive

It became increasingly more difficult to keep Handcross Band going in the 1970s with young people finding other interests more to their liking. To combat this a recruitment drive was introduced to find new young players, or former bandsmen from the armed services. It was also suggested that the band should play more modern music to attract a younger audience.

The Large Version is a newspaper cutting reporting on a concert by the Handcross Band in May 1973, which also featured the Lower Beeding handbell ringers and Gino playing his electric accordion. It is good to see Roy and Eileen Leadbetter receiving credit for running the draw.
