Furnace Pond Cottage

This photograph of Furnace Pond Cottage from about 1960 has been kindly supplied by Ron Cosens. I particularly like the Mk I Jaguar parked outside; I wonder if it belonged to Denise Robins and Colonel Pearson.
The Large Version shows a picture from a newspaper of about 1937 showing Denise Robins and her two dogs sitting beside the well. However, picture #1283 from 1962 shows the well without the winding gear and bucket!

I am unable to read the license plate number in the scanned photo.
If the number is legible In the original photograph, I might be able to identify the car from one of the Jaguar data sites or my library.

Rick, sorry for the delay; it's taken a while to sort out.
The plate may be OUF 223. The 223 is quite clear but the top of the letters are in the shade!
Around that time the 2nd and 3rd letters indicated where the vehicle was registered. I can recall that the number plates of the Southdown buses always seem to end in UF, which indicated that they were registered at Brighton, only about 15 miles distant.
Please let us know if you discover anything.

Barry, you are correct the second and third alpha character was the area identifier which means the Jaguar was first registered in Brighton.
Cars registered in 1963 have an A at the end of the sequence, 1964 a B, and so on.
The plate was thus issued prior to 1963.
The O at the beginning and the three numbers are the registration sequence. This plate is not in the Jaguar Saloon data base.
As soon as I get home I will page through my library.

Barry, this Jaguar appears to be a 3.4, later to be known as the MK1.
The 2.4 had fuller fender spats.
My guess is the Jaguar was first registered in 1957.
I was able to determine the Brighton office was using V as the first letter in 1958, so some time prior to 1958.
