High Street, Handcross

It is early morning in the High Street, and there are many children walking past the shops, and onwards, I suspect, to school. Can anyone throw any light on the identity of the uniformed gentleman seen striding very purposefully past Mrs Jackman’s shop?

The telegraph poles were dated 1907, the year my mother was born. A multi-piped underground 1930s telephone line is still in use; being diverted to plastic conduit at the present Slaugham bridge extensions. The telegraph poles are seen in many of the photographs.
