High Street, Handcross

Not a vehicle to be seen, but there are several people out shopping or simply hanging around. I note that the Jackman’s bakery shop on the right of the picture has changed hands and now has the new owner’s name of E. S. Hibbs & Sons. According to their advertising they carried on the trade as “Bakers, Confectioners, High Class Caterers, Family Grocers, Provision Merchants, Drapers, and Clothiers.” The Large Version link shows close-ups of Handcross villagers of about 100 years ago.
