Staplefield Men's Club social event

I can find no photograph of the Staplefield Men’s Club, and perhaps it was a secret organisation!
However there is a newspaper report on a function in the village hall at which the Handcross Minstrels entertained the large numbers of men and women who attended with music and jokes under the leadership of Bill Robinson.
The list of prizes won during the past season were for billiards, darts, table tennis, snooker, and dominoes and gives us an idea of what the members of the Men’s Club got up to.
The evening ended with dancing to music supplied by Handcross Band under the leadership of Bill Doggett.
Click on Open Document to read the newspaper cutting. Also attached is a cutting of a band concert in the village hall in 1971.

Formed 100 years ago the Staplefield Men's Club disbanded in 2014.
The former club room in the village hall is now vacant and a new use has to be found for it. The village hall AGM will be held in March 2015, during which any suggestions for its future use will be welcome.
A notice was posted in the current edition of "Common Interest" and can be viewed by selecting Large Version.

Len Dowdeswell was a long-term member of the Men's Club. The club bought a lovely bench for the Common with a memorial plaque to Len which was installed last year.
Sadly, the bench was stolen from the Common this week.
