Barry Ray Year: 1961 Villages: HandcrossHandcross lads in the Receation Ground
Some of the Handcross lads have gathered in the Recreation Ground; some with transport and some without.
From the left, they are Barry Cox (Fountain Inn), Barry Ray, Bill Boxall, Ron Verlander, David Knape, Frank Sayers, and Lionel Copeland. Recent news of Lionel can be found at picture #978.
On the right of the picture there used to be two seesaws and two sets of swings, but it seems that only one set of swings remains. Except for the chains, handles and hinges there were all made of wood, unlike today’s playground equipment.
I had a fairly scarce Triumph Terrier, being the smaller 150cc version of the Triumph Tiger Cub.
Frank, however, had an altogether more impressive bike being, I seem to recall, a Matchless. Two of the others had pushbikes, Ron and, probably, David.
