The Handcross tennis club held a barn dance in the Parish Hall in 1978 and Roger Ray wore his badge of office as chairman of the Slaugham Parish Council to present the awards.
On the left, Basil Dick was the gentlemen’s singles champion, and Valerie Huxter, on the right, won the ladies’ singles title.
Meanwhile, Nora Ray didn’t win anything but seems to have picked the biggest trophy for herself!

Select Open Document to view the “Balance Sheet” for 1976. The club was run under the auspices of the Handcross Sports and Social Club, and they often reimbursed sporting expenses from the profits generated from the bar in the clubroom.
