Handcross School with one studious boy

A lone boy is engrossed in a book in the middle of the playground at Handcross primary school.
Now, I have no recollection of this being taken, but I suspect that my father, Roger Ray, was the photographer and that the subject is me.
It did not occur to me in those early years, but now I can really appreciate the Victorian architecture and the excitement it must have engendered in the parents and pupils when the school first opened in 1878.
The school bell is hanging in its belfry on the roof, but, as I write this in April 2015, the bell is missing and has been described as “lost”. The search for the bell is underway, and any information as to its whereabouts would be received with gratitude and in confidence. More details can be seen at picture #771.

Comments:
Further to the photograph above another one in the same set has turned up.
The “studious boy” has ventured outside the school playground and is standing within a grove of, probably. lime trees.
Whether the white band on the trees denoted they are to be felled, I am not sure, but sometime since the photograph was taken, that is what happened. This plot of land has now been used to extend the playground area.
