Barry Ray Year: 1947 Villages: HandcrossThe disastrous fire of Nymans house
The fire at Nymans house seems to be largely under control but there is still a fireman on a ladder. There were reports that the runners of the extending ladders became frozen and the water formed icicles even as it ran off the walls. At its peak the flames leapt thirty feet above the roof and the surrounding area was enveloped in thick smoke.
The gardeners and estate workers tried to salvage all they could of the antique furniture and art treasures and I am wondering if that is a pile of such items on the right of the picture.
