The disastrous fire of Nymans house

This photograph was taken the day following the fire and, despite the poor quality, still shows a scene of utter devastation.
Colonel and Mrs Messel moved to Holmsted Manor to live, and in 1953 Nymans passed to the National Trust when Colonel Messel died. I have read that from the date of the fire the Colonel never once returned to Nymans to view the ruins of the house.
Select Open Document to view two newspaper cuttings of the fire.
