Barry Ray Year: 1985 Villages: HandcrossPenelope Keith visits Nymans for the BBC
A group of artists visited the gardens of Nymans to practise their painting skills on a lovely summer’s day. Naturally, most of the artists have decided to paint the ruins, but there appears to be one rebel who is facing the other direction!
The photograph was taken by Mrs Eileen Scrivener of Bolney Women's Institute, and perhaps the artists are from the same organisation.
In 1995 the BBC Radio produced a series of programmes entitled “My Kind of Trust” in which actress, Penelope Keith, visited various National Trust gardens to interview those most associated with each garden. Naturally, she visited Nymans and the 14 minute programme can be heard by using the conrols below. Those appearing were head gardener, David Masters, his son, James Masters, and Alistair Buchanon, who was Colonel Messel’s great-grandson and who also worked in the garden.
