Fete on Staplefield Common 1980This is but a small section of the large crowd enjoying the sunshine at a summer fete held on Staplefield Common.
Among those attending were Lord Snowdon, a local resident at that time living in Old House, his mother, Anne, Countess of Ross, and in the dark jumper, his 16-year-old daughter, Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones. In the tweed suit is my aunt, Mrs Dorothy Palmer from Pease Pottage, who was a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret for many years.
