Landlord of the Red Lion, Handcross

Stanley Charles Ball was landlord of the Red Lion, Handcross from 1902 to 1911.
The 1911 census informs us that the residents of the Red Lion at that time were Stanley Ball (34), his wife Amy (33), their son Percival (8), barmaid Florence Yates (42), waitress Kate Day (25), cowman Norman Rose (19) and ostler Robert Warren (33).
December 1981 and January 1982 contained some of the coldest, snowiest and severest winter weather ever recorded in the UK. The attached cartoon appeared in a newspaper and as my father lived opposite the Red Lion he could not resist saving it. Click on Large Version to view.
