Red Lion fire at night-time

On 7th September 1978, from his house opposite, my father, Roger Ray, captured a night-time photograph of the devastating fire which all-but-destroyed the Red Lion in Handcross.
The fire left a barmaid in hospital, injured when she escaped from a first floor window. Perhaps it was from one of the windows in the photograph.
Someone is wearing a high-visibility jacket, but I am not sure if it is a fireman or a policeman.
