Red Lion fire damage in the bar

Not many in the pub tonight, there must be something good on television!
With the usual electricity circuits switched off at the Red Lion following the terrible fire in September 1978, it was necessary to bring in arc lights to carry out any work in the interior of the building.
The large upright wooden post stood in the front bar accessible by the still-surviving door leading from the car park. This was the least damaged part of the building and is largely in its original condition today. It comprised the downstairs area of the old ostler’s cottage.
