Stagecoach arriving in Handcross

The “ Red Rover” stagecoach is seen here arriving in Handcross on its return journey on the London to Brighton run. Several such special trips were undertaken during the 20th century although the practical use of the stagecoach had long disappeared firstly due to the railways, followed by the advent of motor transport.
The Large version shows the coach parked outside the Red Lion.
Select Open document for a similar picture showing the coach preparing to leave with the travellers having finished their lunch and a team of fresh horses in place.
