Building works at Nymans following the 1947 fire

Further to picture #1595 it it seems highly likely that these four workmen were the team of carpenters employed by Stephen Knight Ltd who had the task of renovating a small part of Nymans house which was largely destroyed in the fire of 1947. Part of the contract was to construct two flats within the area close to the stables.

At first glance it seems to be yet another photograph of the dovecot, but a closer inspection reveals, just to the right of its roof, a badly-damaged roof over the frontage with ladders extending from the ground to beyond the guttering.
In the foreground, the ground has been excavated and any plants and shrubs have been removed.
