Lord Snowdon welcomes villagers to Nymans

On 18th June 1994 Lord Snowdon and his wife, Lucy, invited several local people to join them in the courtyard at Nymans house.
This was an important year in the history of Nymans and Lord Snowden was the chosen figurehead to announce the plans to open up six downstairs rooms to the public from 1996, each room featuring the artistic skills of one member of his family.
Also, as part of the overall scheme, many valuable items of furniture, ceramics and paintings from the upstairs rooms were to be sold at auction at Sotherby’s in just seven days’ time. The lots were estimated to fetch in excess of £200,000.
From the left, in the doorway: John Hardy, Lord Snowdon, Lucy, Phyllis Belson.
Front row: Shirley Alexander, Unknown, David Lambden, Pearl Lambden (née Messenger), Christine Pearce, David Pearce.
