Staplefield cricket team versus Ashfold School

When Ashfold School was based in Handcross there had always been a strong bond between the school and the village through the Home Guard, British Legion, and cricket. This bond led to a cricket match being arranged for 14th July 1956 when Staplefield visited the new location of the school in Aylesbury.
To field a full team, the school “borrowed” a couple of players who had travelled up from Sussex.
Ashfold batted first and were bowled out for 58, having been 51 for 5 at one point. The Staplefield team responded with 66 for the loss of just 3 wickets.
