Fountain Inn, Handcross (1 of 7)

The following seven pages will feature the recent history of the Fountain Inn in Handcross, both its good times and its sad demolition.
In the 1960s it was usual for the Handcross football team to meet up outside the Fountain to travel to away matches. From the left, they are Percy Maynard, Mr Ratcliffe (Supporter), Colin Botting, Rothnie Gibson, David Knape, and behind the wheel, Bill Boxall.
David Knape has found a discarded poster promoting Richard Holme, a Liberal candidate in the October 1964 General Election which Harold Wilson’s Labour party narrowly won by 4 seats.
The car was actually mine and was a yellow 1959 Ford Zephyr Convertible, with, of course, white-wall tyres and a whip aerial with pennant!
The Large Version shows me standing on top of the wall supporting the pub sign!
