Dances (1 of 6) - Railway Hotel, Crawley

I am sure there were several dances in the Parish Hall in Handcross during the 1930s but I am equally sure that several locals made their way down Pease Pottage Hill to the quaint market town of Crawley where regular dances took place in The Railway Hotel next to the level crossing.
A small collection of posters advertising dances in Crawley can be viewed by selecting Large Version and Open Document. The poster above dates from 1934, and the other three dances took place in 1935. The bands featured are the “Rhythm Aces” from East Grinstead, and Jack Charman and his “Merrimakers Dance Band” from Horsham. The MC for all dances was my father, Roger Ray.
