Queen's coronation 1953

The first event of the 1953 Coronation festivities took place on 2nd May when a dance was held in the Parish Hall. Tickets could be purchased in advance at several locations in the Parish, including the post offices in Slaugham and Warninglid, both of which no longer exist.
The main attraction of the evening was the choosing of the Coronation Carnival Queen who was to be formally crowned on the veranda of the old pavilion at the Receation Ground on 3rd June. The Queen was 18-year-old Joan Weller from Pease Pottage and a short video of her crowning can be viewed on picture #1070.
