Silver Jubilee celebrations (9 of 9) - Party

This is a newspaper cutting of a Silver Jubilee party put on for disabled persons of the locality. Further details and another picture of the event can be seen on picture #1784.
Children from Handcross Primary School served the teas and pictured above is 11-year-old Michelle Talman from Preston Cottages, Slaugham.
Bill Farleigh, manager of the Red Lion, donated an enormous cake made by the chef especially for the party.
Click on Open Document to read two contrasting newspaper cuttings. The first is a sad story relating to a semi-mature tree donated by Bob Mills of Associated Tree Surgeons which was planted in the Recreation Ground to commemorate the Silver Jubilee. The tree was planted shortly before the Jubilee, but by the end of June vandals had broken it in half.
The second cutting is a letter to a local newspaper congratulating and thanking the members of the Jubilee Committee fo all their hard work in providing so many events for the local residents to enjoy.
