Scout Team at Marbles Championship (5 of 12)

The Slaugham Scout team won the Dawn White shield for the third time at the marbles championships held at Tinsley Green on Good Friday 1954 and the team can be seen here receiving the trophy from comedian, Cyril Fletcher.
From the left the team comprised Tom Chamberlain (captain), Colin Boniface, Richard Hayler, and Barry Ray.
In the background can be seen The Grosvenor Gobs, a visiting team from the U. S. Navy whose ship was visiting England at the time. They played an international match against a British Lions team and were well beaten.
The Large Version shows Barry Ray lining up a shot in the junior team final against a team from Three Bridges.
Select Open Document to view two newspaper cuttings. One of the photographs shows an inset of Arthur Chamberlain who won the individual title in 1954. Another photograph and details can be seen at picture #1729.
