Slaugham Furnace Pond (7 of 11)

The photograph of the Furnace Pond in Slaugham was taken from the car park looking along the top of the dam.
The fencing on the left is to prevent passers-by from falling down a steep embankment on to a concrete stepped waterfall on their way back from the Chequers Inn. It also prevents more sober folk from a similar fate!
The Large Version shows a close up.
By selecting Open Document you can read a passage from the memoirs of Slaugham as recorded by Mrs E. M. Carter (née Kensett) (1893-1951). See picture #204.
In the document the nurse was Amelia Ruth Alma Wareham (1855-1928). In the census return of 1911, which disclosed the residents of the Kensett shop in Slaugham, she was described as “Parish Nurse (Sick)”.
