Ist Slaugham Cubs from Handcross (1 of 5)

There are no details with this photograph but I assume this is the traditional St. George’s Day parade held annually in April and attended by the various members of the Scouting movement in the district. The parade is descending the High Street, Cuckfield and making its way to the Holy Trinity Church for a service, but something is amiss!
The 1st Slaugham Cubs, and presumably the Scouts, have turned off left along Broad Street at the junction now occupied by a mini roundabout. Is there another route to the church from there?
Bringing up the rear is Cubmaster, Sid Sargent, and in front of him is Stephen Cox, who is following Laurence Ray. Please can anyone identify the others?
The Large Version is available.

This picture is in the following groups
Scouts and Cubs
Ron does not appear to have earned many, if any, badges. Nor be he Sixer or Seconder.
I'm sure he went on to become a credit to the 1st Slaugham.

I cannot recall collecting any or many badges in the Cubs either! Before the badges (fifteen of them ranging from Book Reader to Gardener) you were awarded the First Star and the Second Star for a range of skills from reciting "God Save the Queen" to Folding Clothes and Make Pot of Tea!
The Scout Movement now has a section for Beavers covering the age group 6 to 8, but in 1949 the entry age for Cubs was generally 7, or sometimes 7 and a half years. Ron was born towards the end of January 1942 and therefore he would have been in the Cubs for probably only a few months, and have been too young to have made his mark.
Indeed, I am wondering if Ron had his picture taken as he was going to his first Cub meeting!
