Ist Slaugham Cubs from Handcross (2 of 5)

Nine Cub Packs from the Haywards Heath area entered a team for a sports tournament held at Ardingly College, and of course one of the teams was from the 1st Slaugham Troup based in Handcross.
The picture is in terrible condition and it is nearly impossible to identify any of the Cubs from the joint winning teams of Slaugham and Cuckfield. Successful members of the Slaugham team mentioned in the newspaper article were Chris Johnson (kneeling 4th from left), Arthur Fiest, Colin Boniface (kneeling on right), and Barry Ray (standing on left).
Newspaper cuttings of the event can be viewed by selecting Large Version and Open Document.
Last year Jim Biggs reminisced that just after WWII the Cubs used to meet in the wooden hut behind Les Moore’s Dairy (see picture #444) and that the leaders were Godfrey Nice and Mr Emery from Farthings Corner in the Staplefield Road. He recalls that in 1948 they camped at Angmering.
