Miss Handcross Social Club beauty queen contest

The Handcross Social Club arranged a party and dance for Christmas 1963, but due to bad weather it was postponed until early in the new year.
The main highlight of the evening was to choose “Miss Handcross Social Club” which was judged by local romantic novelist, Miss Denise Robins.
I am grateful to Mrs Barbara Alderson from Slaugham who not only won the contest but had the foresight to save the newspaper cutting!
Barbara, on the left, is accompanied by the runner up, Miss Louise Meacham from Northgate, Crawley.
Rob Pattenden was M.C. for the evening, and his wife with Mrs Hepsy Brown supervised the catering.

Barbara is the Mum of my friend Annette Alderson from Slaugham, a very pretty woman, and a good friend to newcomers in the village.
I have pictures of the large snowfall that caused the cancellation of this event.
