Warninglid School prize band

Further to picture #1916 which included Grace Farrow (née Longhurst) here are photographs of her two brothers, Norman Longhurst (1921-?) and Edward “Ted” Longhurst (1923-2014).
In 1934 both boys were attending Warninglid School and the above picture shows the school’s band which entered the Lewes Music Festival where they came second in their class.
The photograph was taken from a 1935 calendar which was produced by the school. It seems that the band was predominantly a percussion band as there were plenty of drums, cymbals, triangles and tambourines, but little in the way of instruments to play a melody! Ted Longhurst is playing a snare drum, standing second from left.
The Large Version shows a close up.
Select Open Document to view a group of four pupils from Warninglid. On the left is Norman Longhurst, and on the right, Ted Longhurst still playing his snare drum, The two in the middle are unnamed.

I think the girl seated left is my mum, Peggy Ray (née Munn).
She went on to play the violin which was quite a step up from the triangle!
