Battle of the Yellow Lines in Handcross (4 of 6)

The outcome of the battle over the parking restrictions on the eastern side of the High Street in Handcross was still uncertain but there was one last glimmer of hope. The appeal to the Ombudsman for local government had not succeeded as he found on the side of the county council. However, the roads and transportation committee of the county council had promised that they would review their original decision in the summer of 1984.
The Large Version shows the full newspaper report relating to the headline above.
After a delay of some months the committee discussed the parking restrictions in their September 1984 meeting and then took a vote on whether the restrictions should be rescinded or whether the yellow lines would remain. The committee voted by nine to six to reverse their decision of over a year ago and the yellow lines had to go. It was a close call!
