Battle of the Yellow Lines in Handcross (6 of 6)

The story of the yellow lines continued into 1985 when the villagers of Handcross were surprised when a council lorry turned up in February to spray tar over the lines. The residents had been led to believe that it would not be possible to remove the lines until June or July.
The picture shows Jennifer Wood, Noel Matthews and Jan Gammon giving their thumbs up.
Two other pictures on this story have already been uploaded to the website and these can be viewed at picture #1398 and picture #1399.
The Large Version shows the full newspaper cutting.
Select Open Document to read another report of the victorious ending to the campaign which had involved so many people in the village. It is telling that following the removal of the yellow lines the council had not received one complaint!
