Motor cars in Slaugham

A car is parked immediately outside the Chequers, and the vehicle parked on the road looks like a delivery van. Earlier in the century Victor Kensett had two goats which were tethered on the green during the day and kept the grass nice and short. However the green looks rather uncared for in this photograph and no doubt the goats were retired, or worse! Victor Kensett’s son, James, was the first landlord of the Chequers after it was converted to an inn in 1923.
