May Day celebrations in Staplefield

No notes are attached to this photograph, but it may have been taken at Staplefield’s May Day celebrations which ran from 1919 to 1922.
The May Day programme for 1920 shows the composition of the procession which includes a “group of foresters in green tunic, with hood and hosen”. A couple of those in the picture appear to be holding axes over their shoulders which support the theory, However, the two men with spears suggest otherwise!
