Handcross British Legion fete (1 of 2)

In 1950 the Handcross and District British Legion organised a large fete in the Recreation Ground. A video of the event can be found at picture #1814.
The members of the British Legion and various other village organisations mustered to be inspected by Major General, the Earl of Montrose as seen in the picture above. The British Legion members on parade comprised ex-servicemen from both World Wars.
Front row, from the left:- Bill Hazelgrove, Pat O’Shea, M. Henly, Ebbie Robins, Bill Wheeler (Pease Pottage), Harry Ray (Pease Pottage). The last-named is my grandfather who had a novel way of storing his walking stick while standing to attention!.
In the back row can be seen Bob Dench partly hidden by Ebbie Robins, and Nelson Cook between Ebbie and Bill Wheeler.
The Large Version shows a close up.
