Staplefield Minors football team (1 of 4)

One of the footballers in picture #2173, John Pierce, was a prime mover in forming Staplefield Minors for the benefit of local boys.
The Minors were usually outplayed by opposing teams fielding much bigger boys and they always came bottom of the league. In the 1961/62 season they lost all 21 games, and scored just 6 goals while the opposition scored a lucky 214!
But all was not lost, for their determination and fortitude against overpowering adversity the Staplefield Minors usually won the cup awarded for sportsmanship!
Back row: John Pierce (Hon Secretary), P. Salisbury, Kieth Pierce, A. Hawe, Graham Chambers, Peter Charlton, Vic Newnham (Trainer).
Front row: D. Kluge, Pat Streeter, Trevor Kirkham (Captain), C. Holman, H. Randall.
